Folklore Village of Chlomos

Chlomos Kerkyras is located on the eastern side of the "Merovigli" mountain in southern Corfu, at a height of 270 - 320 m and was built in the 13th century. It is one of the first villages of Corfu, and is 31 km away from the city. The scattered ruins on the slopes of the mountain and the existence of an altar of Apollo at the site of the present Taxiarches Temple testify the presence of residents (probably breeders) in this area, from the pre-Christian era. The first inhabitants settled in the area of the present village came from Byzantium as fugitives or mercenaries of the Byzantines who remained in Corfu. Later they came from other places and mainly from the region of Korissia (Linia) who were forced to go up due to malaria and pirates.
